Recently, the learning and reading (and reading and learning) has started to pay off. With several short stories, poems appearing in Liberated Muse Volume 1: How I Freed My Soul, Liberated Muse Volume 2: Betrayal Wears a Pretty Face, the upcoming Dear Sister Anthology, 2 self-published zines, and a soon-to-be published novel under her belt, Sumayyah Talibah is finally making strides toward world domination. | Author bio: Writer, reader, ranter; The Mike likes an eclectic range of things, but not bananas. He started writing stories before he could write by hand, sticking printed words together to form the sentences in his first days of school, then bothering the teacher to print off more so he could complete his epic. Things have come full circle, as due to injury he finds himself again unable to write by hand, but thanks to the magic box on his desk his prose continues to flow. Being a grumpy misanthropist with a cane leads to a particularly disillusioned undercurrent in his writing, but it's not all doom and gloom. Sometimes he lets most of the characters live. Though sometimes they'll wish they didn't. |

| Author bio: When you're young, you think you know everything and life is indistinguishable from a game. It's only when you get older — when you begin to doubt the authenticity of the event and question the rules — that experience begins to count for something. And to quote the inimitable Forbes Bingley, a recurring character of several novels: "Life makes you stronger, at a price." In a sense, life has been preparation — practice, perhaps — for this wild stab at being an author. After all, how hard can it be, putting one word after another? Of course, like anything else in life, you only get out what you put in. At times, writing is both cathartic and semi autobiographical, where I catch myself looking backwards whimsically, lustily, with regret, a wry smile, a despondent glower or growing doubt. But writing is also a journey, one with no intentional destination, just waypoints I may navigate towards from time to time, at leisure. Though I must admit, it's a journey I would prefer not to make alone. |

Revived is a paranormal serial, with new chapters available the first Friday of every month. | |||||
| Author bio: I write fiction in the paranormal genre, with all of my stories linked in some way. Immortal witches, spiritualist mediums and street magicians populate my books, along with many other supernatural characters and creatures and even some ‘normal’ people too. Accursed was my first major project that made me think seriously about writing. Originally designed as a prequel to another book I had written to showcase a supporting character, Accursed, developed a life of its own and expanded beyond the novella I had planned to become a trilogy. World War II has always fascinated me dating back to my days studying history at GCSE and A-level and the idea was to place my central character during this tumultuous time and then make his life get even more complicated. By the end of the book the inexperienced GI and medium has had to grow up fast during very difficult circumstances. As a writer I like to form a basic structure for the plot and adapt the details as I write, though I often find that the characters ultimately determine the direction of the book, taking it away from my original ideas as their personalities take shape. At times I could very much relate to the lead character upon his journey 'down the rabbit hole' into a new and bizarre world of witchery and mysticism as some of the twists and turns surprised me too. The original ending for Accursed would not have lent itself to a sequel so I'm pleased I adapted. Lastly, how to categorise my work? I like to consider my material wholly unique, which I don't think anyone would disagree with. The terms paranormal saga or paranormal romance fit as genres, though I think the term I'm most comfortable with would be paranormal pulp. As a connoisseur of the great pulp books of the past I embrace the term because with pulp you know you're going to get a good story told simply and effectively and that's what I hope I've delivered. |

How To Find Your Perfect Juice Machine | by Amy Ranze May 04, 2012 | You set the price! | 4294 words | Sample 20% |
| Fruits & vegetables are inherently nutritious. But most nutrients are locked away in the plant's cell walls. The juicing machine breaks down those walls, producing maximum nutrition in a "pre-digested" form. Learn: the many categories available, 3 best types of juicers, features to look for, & how to select the best juicer. Get a juicer for a healthier life. Get this book to get the right juicer. | |||||
| Author bio: Amy is a 30-something researcher and writer, specializing in health issues. She is also a former journalist. Growing up on a farm in the tiny town of Ingersoll, Ontario Canada, she was exposed at an early age to the realities of the food chain. The farm animals were her friends. She rescued cats from the motor of the family van, where they found warmth in the winter. She saved countless barn swallows that found themselves in the jaws of death of dogs, cats and even raccoons! But the critical event occurred one evening when she discovered one of her “friends†served up on her dinner plate. Even though 'Pete-The-Rooster' was mean and tried to peck her legs whenever she entered HIS chicken coop to get the eggs, she still loved him. On her 10th birthday, to the shock of her farming family, she announced with passion that she was no longer going to “eat her friends.†She was now a VEGETARIAN. A lifestyle she has maintained ever since. Because the delicate balance of plant nutrition and human needs requires a more thoughtful approach than wolfing down a MacBurger, she naturally gravitated to a study of nutrition in university (Go Warriors!). When she first learned of juicing, she immediately recognized that it was the logical next step in vegetarianism. She took that step ... and lived happily ever after. So far, anyway. Although Amy has since moved away from the farm life, the memories and life lessons taught on the farm will stick with her forever. Amy now lives in Canada, in a humungous igloo with her 6 little monkeys (children, when they are good) and soon-to-be dog … or maybe a seal! :) |

Academic Essays on Miscellaneous Classics of the Western Canon | by Steven Sills May 01, 2012 | You set the price! | 171506 words | Sample 20% |
| These are essays on various great books in the Western canon in the fields of philosophy, literature, history and social sciences from Sumerian Literature to Nietzsche and beyond | |||||
| Author bio: Steven David Justin Sills is a poet, novelist, and scholar of great books of the Western Canon. Review from the Arkansas Gazette: Papyrus: An Eloquent Ode to Life's Many Gritty Moments by Amy L. Wilson Arkansas Gazette Little Rock, Arkansas April 1990 An American Papyrus Steven Sills The Chestnut Hills Press Poetry Series 63 pages; $6.95 paperback Twenty-six poems make up this first published book by Steven Sills, 26, of Fayetteville. Sills' vision is often a dark one. He writes of the homeless, the abused, the forgotten people. He is also intrigued with the mystical, the sensual/sexual, loss--as in losing those whom we hold dear, such as a spouse or lover--as well as the lost, such as someone who is autistic, who seems unreachable. Sills' skillful use of the language to impart the telling moments of a life is his strength. He chooses his words carefully, employing a well-developed vocabulary. He is thoughtful about punctuation, where to break lines and when to make a new stanza. He's obviously well versed in "great" literature. Sills' command of language helps to soften the blows of some of the seamier passages found in his poems. Seamy may not be the best word to use. Perhaps gritty is a better word or just plain matter-of-fact and to the point, as in this descriptive passage from "Oracion A Traves De Gasshole," about the hopeless feelings of a respiratory therapy worker: "With the last of the air drawing in/ Begins to fold its walls; and he could imagine it/ Like he could imagine from inexact memories/ The woman last night at the hospital, whom he began to like---/ Her body pulling cell by cell/ Apart before he had a chance to finish the rescue with the hose." The book begins with "Post-Annulment2" a poem with a poignant description of society's displaced--"As the sun blazes upon the terminal's/ Scraped concrete/The shelved rows of the poor men"--and continues by describing a city scene through the eyes of a maintenance worker at the Hilton Hotel. The protagonist's wife has left him and he is taking the bus to work that morning, his mind wandering as he looks for the key to why she is gone. "He rings the bell. / The idea of her not home and legally annulled/ From his life--her small crotch not tightened to his desperate thrusts/ Makes him feel sick. He gets down from the bus./ He goes to work. He suddenly knows that he is not in love." As many poets will do, Sills could not leave this work alone. So a hybrid of this poem, "Post-Annulment" ends the book. In it, he has kept many of the original lines and added parenthetical remarks to expand on his ideas. It is in this context he allows himself to comment on religion: "Religion is a lie! Everything is a lie!" and on marriage: "Marriage, that sanctified legal rape, fosters the child-man to be a destined societal function as he grows up in the family unit." Not all of the poems are so bleak and cynical in every passage, however, as is apparent in "The San Franciscan's Night Meditations": "The night is full of impulses to live and run and seep heavily into its dark robes of silence and morbid rightness." People who do not feel comfortable examining in detail the darker side of life--the the details that the average person overlooks because it just hurts or feels to strange to look--will not enjoy this book. Serious writers of free verse, contemporary poetry and/or those who study it will not be disappointed. Sills, a native of Missouri, is a recent graduate of Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He currently is working in Fayetteville. Sills dedicated his book to Mike Burns, a poet and teacher at SMSU who helped him edit his work. |

| Author bio: At age eighteen, after finishing high school, I sat at home and became bored. I didn't want to get to uni. I didn't like the idea of working, let alone working hard, so I sat around playing Nintendo. One day I was bored enough to revisit a story I wrote in year four about Joel the Onion of Death. I wrote a chapter. Some months later I'd written 50,000 words and I realised I was halfway through a book. A year or so later a friend sent me an advert for a playwriting competition. I'd never even read a play (excluding what I pretended to read in high school), let alone written one, but I thought, "What the heck. I'll write a play." I won the competition and had my first play produced for a 22-show season. Since then I've been writing quite seriously and have completed five books and 40 plays, as well as a range of articles, short stories and other bits and pieces. I've now had close to 50 different works produced, published or performed, including 25 plays staged and a fiction novel published. For a living, I run a health clinic where I work as a massage therapist, something else I started ten years ago when I was bored. I do contracting work for the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and am involved in the Sydney theatre scene as the Coordinator of Crash Test Drama and the Literary Manager of Short+Sweet Theatre International. More recently, I became the Festival Director of Short+Sweet Sydney, the world's largest festival of 10 minute plays, which produces around about 180 works at the beginning of each year. I also teach creative writing and run an independent publishing company. When I'm not writing or running my businesses or theatre shows or contracting myself out, I'm playing with my two ferrets Merlin and Matilda, sleeping, eating, or pining over the fact that I can't sing very well. Sigh. Notable Writing Achievements * 2011 - short play The Flowers wins People's Choice Award at Crash Test Drama in December, earning it a spot in Short+Sweet Sydney 2012 * 2011 - short play The Flowers selected as a Gala Finalist at Short+Sweet Melbourne 2011 * 2011 - short play V.D. performed in Gala Finals of Short+Sweet Brisbane 2011 and wins People's Choice Award (by the highest margin ever) and Best Comedy * 2011 - short play The Devil's Aftershave selected as a Gala Finalist at Short+Sweet Sydney 2011 (170 plays performed) * 2010 - short play The Devil's Aftershave performed in Singapore, Canberra and Brisbane. It was on the outskirts of civilization - if you could have called it that after the EMP blasts. Most of the human race was killed, but the legendary supernatural creatures survived. The humans quickly found out monsters were real and they outnumbered them 10 to 1 | |||||
| Author bio: Sarah L. Covert is is a writer, editor and publisher living in Charlotte, North Carolina with her adorable cat Sophie and her wonderful husband, Henry. She grew up in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, where her love for reading and writing science-fiction, strange tales and horror began. She was only 10 years old when she wrote her first scary story. She lived in Portland, Oregon for a decade, where her love for the strange and unusual was fostered. Sarah’s interest in the unusual has landed her many fascinating opportunities. In addition to several published poems and articles for online publications, she also created an expansive mythos for an alien culture featured in a sci-fi board game entitled “You ‘N’ IT“. Sarah has even worked in film and television. She was Second Assistant Director for a zombie feature film called “Flesh Of My Flesh“. Later, she worked as the Associate Producer of the local public access program “Northwest Artist Spotlightâ€, and has contributed her talents to a smattering of short films. For several years she collaborated with Lurker Films, coordinating the “H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival†and “Zompire: The Undead Film Festival“. Now she is here to bring you the latest in Science-Fiction, Strange Tales and Horror and has an exciting new project – Double Feature Press! as if that wasn’t enough, Sarah added more to her plate and joined the committee at a non-profit organization called the Inkwell Awards, as “Techno Queenâ€. With all of that on her plate, it is no wonder she never sleeps! “Someone once asked what it was that first drew me to horror, science-fiction and strange tales. That’s easy – Drive-In Theater Double Features. As a child my family and I would regularly go to the drive-in (back when they were far more prevalent). Usually they would play a “kid friendly†movie as the opener and a more adult movie later in the evening when the kids should have been sleeping. I never slept.†– Sarah L. Covert |
