“Aw come on man! It’ll be fun!” Randy insisted.
“Yeah,” added Dennis, “this is really good acid.”
“I dunno,” I said. “You said it was gonna be a party, not just the three of us. You know if I get bored when I’m trippin’, it starts goin’ bad.”
“Don’t worry ‘bout getting’ bored, man,” Randy argued. “We got a color TV set and a good stereo. We git bored, we kin watch all night movies or play records.”
“I dunno,” I repeated doubtfully.
“Yeah, ‘ we got plenty o’ pot, man. We kin always smoke ourselves down,” said Dennis.
“Aw, whut the heck! But only half a tab, man,” I gave in.
Randy got a knife from the kitchen and cut one of the small green tablets in two and gave me half. He then divided the remaining half, and he and Dennis each took one and a quarter tablets of the “Green Goddess.”
As soon as I swallowed the thin green sliver, a spooky sensation shot chills through my spine. I knew I should not have listened to Dennis and Randy. I had never had a really good trip on acid, and most of them had been bummers. I wanted to run to the restroom and poke my finger down my throat, but I knew it would not help. Once LSD is in your mouth, the only way to stop its effects is with medical treatment, and I was not ready for that sort of hassle.
